Happy Friday, PV Guide readers! I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you.

It’s another busy week for new releases at home. Luca Guadagnino’s new movie After the Hunt lands on Prime, the critically acclaimed drama Train Dreams premieres on Netflix, the “horror movie, but starring a dog” Good Boy arrives on Shudder, and the new Conjuring movie (HBO Max) and The Bad Guys 2 (Peacock) make their streaming debuts. Over on the VOD side, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is now available to rent. Train Dreams and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You are the ones I’m most likely to check out.

The Young Girls of Rochefort

If you like: Musicals, charm, movies filled with color
Watch at: Criterion Channel, HBO Max

The new Wicked movie is out in theaters, and early reports suggest it’s a stinker. Why go out and spend a lot of money to watch a (reportedly) bad musical about sisterhood with pastel colors, when you can just stay home, not spend a lot of money, and watch a great musical about sisterhood with pastel colors instead? The Young Girls of Rochefort is one of the very best movie musicals ever made, and if the release of an allegedly bad Wicked movie can possibly inspire more people to see it, that’s a win.

I loved the first two seasons of Physical: 100, the Korean athletic competition show. It’s got a great premise, consistently fun contestants, and some of the best editing and production value you’ll find on reality TV. This spin-off pits teams representing eight Asian nations against each other, and continues the franchise’s high bar of quality.

As always, the introductions of the contestants are fantastic, showing off a variety of athletic skills and backgrounds, and smartly leaning on the national and cultural sports of the nations represented. This year’s crop includes the usual group of Crossfitters, wrestlers, and fighters, as well as a Cirque du Soleil performer, a parkour luminary, a sailor, and a Turkish oil wrestler. It’s extremely easy to find rooting interests with the show’s energetic contestant introductions, and the set design for some of the challenges is absolutely jaw-dropping.

You know how it goes here at PV Guide – if a new Baby Assassins thing is out to watch, it’s going to get recommended here. Baby Assassins 3 (also known as Baby Assassins: Nice Days) is the best entry yet in the most consistently excellent media franchise around. Watch the first two first (and the TV show, if you have time), and then make sure to check out one of the best new movies of the year. For more, read my review.
