Weekend Watchlist, 11/6: Alone
What to watch this weekend
Happy Friday, PV Guide readers! I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you.
Two fun things to share from this week: Sports Movies That Don’t Suck is back with season 2, opening with a very fun episode about Creed with award-winning journalist Bradford William Davis. I also interviewed Dropout stars Jess McKenna and Zach Reino about their new show MP3 (! Check it out if you haven’t had a chance yet.
Here are this week’s picks.

A Godzilla movie

Where to watch: HBO or Netflix
Godzilla Day was this week, and Godzilla Minus Zero is out to celebrate (as is the video game Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered). So watch a Godzilla movie this weekend – whether it’s the original 1954 masterpiece, one of the great modern entries like Shin Godzilla or Godzilla Minus One, or something in between, like the delightful 2001 throwback Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack or the incredible martial arts-inspired take of Godzilla: Final Wars.
Mikey and Nicky

Where to watch: HBO, Kanopy
To be honest I’m not all that interested in Martin McDonagh’s new spy comedy Wild Horse Nine, but the premise reminded me of one of my all-time favorite movies, Mikey and Nicky. Two old friends on the job, one seemingly with a secret assignment? It’s a solid fit. Mikey and Nicky is an all-time great crime drama from Elaine May starring John Cassavetes and Peter Falk as childhood friends on opposite sides of a mob dispute. There’s never a bad time to watch it.
Raise the Red Lantern

Where to watch: In theaters
Zhang Yimou’s legendary 1991 period romance is playing in theatres over the next few weeks, and there’s no way to legally watch it online. I’m planning to catch it next week, but some alternative Zhang Yimou movies you can watch at home: House of Flying Daggers (Prime, Roku Channel, YouTube), Hero (VOD), or Shadow (Prime, Kanopy, Tubi, Pluto).
