Happy Friday, PV Guide readers! I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you. A programming note: I will be traveling a bit this month and celebrating with family, so the Weekend Watchlist will be a bit shorter than usual in December, but the picks will continue.

🎁 Enjoying the newsletter and want to gift it to a friend? Been thinking about signing up for a free membership? We’re offering 20% off discounts on annual memberships until the end of the year.

The new-to-streaming roundup this week: Bugonia premieres on Peacock, Die My Love streams on Mubi, The Life of Chuck lands on Hulu, and J.J. Perry's Afterburn arrives on MGM Plus. There's also a new animated Batman movie, Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires on HBO Max. New on VOD: Sentimental Value, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, Eternity, and Nuremberg.

A reminder to vote on the PV Guide Reader's Choice Awards! The voting will be open through January 15.

Let’s get into this week’s picks!

The fourth installment of Taskmaster: Champion of Champions premiered this week, featuring the winners of Taskmaster series 16 through 20. That means Sam Campbell, John Robins, Andy Zaltzman, Mathew Baynton, and Maisie Adam will be suiting up in their Taskmaster best once again to compete in the one-episode special. It’s an exciting time, and for some pre-reading, check out my interview with Maisie Adam.

This one’s long been on my list of anime to check out, thanks to convincing recommendations from my former Polygon co-worker Toussaint Egan. (Check out re:frame, an animation newsletter from Toussaint and friends). Now with ping pong drama Marty Supreme out (and me positively salivating to see it), it’s a great excuse to finally watch Ping Pong and its gorgeous animation style.

The Kantara movies

I just got back from a cross country trip, and on each of the two flights I watched a Kantara movie. The first – Kantara: A Legend – came out in 2022, following a conflict over a divine forest between the forest’s tribal inhabitants, a strict forest officer, and a local landlord. The second – Kantara: Chapter 1 – is a prequel that came out this October (and only got bested at the 2025 Indian box office earlier this month), following a similar conflict over the land centuries earlier. They’re thrilling, gorgeous movies full of life and energy, and imbued with incredible star power from writer/director/star Rishab Shetty, who plays the lead role in both movies.
