Weekend Watchlist, 12/5: Place
What to watch this weekend
Happy Friday, PV Guide readers! I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you. A programming note: I will be travelling a bit this month and celebrating with family, so the Weekend Watchlist may be a bit shorter than usual in December, but the picks will continue.

The new-to-streaming roundup this week: Noah Baumbach’s new movie Jay Kelly premieres on Netflix, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning arrives on Paramount Plus, and the surreal French spy movie Reflections in a Dead Diamond lands on Shudder.
Let’s get into this week’s picks!

The Wedding Banquet (1993)

If you like: Romantic comedies, newly available classics
Watch at: Kanopy, or free with ads on Tubi
Watch trailer here
Earlier this year, I recommended Andrew Ahn’s remake of Ang Lee’s classic rom-com The Wedding Banquet, when the new one arrived on Hulu. Now I get to follow up with great news: After being unavailable to watch in the States for years, the original is now finally streaming for free with a library card on Kanopy (as is the remake, as of this week!). I’m very excited to check it out myself.
David Byrne's Tiny Desk Concert
If you like: Good vibes, good music
Watch at: YouTube
David Byrne holds a special place in our household. Our Talking Heads-themed bachelor party had Byrne-inspired images on the invitations, and watching Stop Making Sense and American Utopia are annual traditions here. So the arrival of a new David Byrne Tiny Desk Concert was extremely welcome this week.
Kill the Jockey

If you like: Surrealism, dark comedies, movies about identity
Watch at: Prime Video

This Argentinian surreal dark comedy is one of the hidden gems of this year’s surprisingly strong crop of sports-adjacent movies, and it’s now available to watch at home. It follows a star jockey with self-destructive tendencies who gets in trouble with some dangerous people, going on the run and, in the process, grappling with questions of identity.
Kill the Jockey is filled with arresting images and captivating performances from leads Nahuel Pérez Biscayart (BPM) and Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist). The movie has a lot of aesthetic similarities to the work of Wes Anderson (with lots of flat, funny image compositions), with splashes of Coen Bros. (the narrative and many of the characters) and David Lynch (the highly surreal elements) thrown in. It's a remarkably distinct movie out of the overall 2025 crop, and is one that’s going to stick with me.
