Happy Friday, PV Guide readers! It’s really starting to feel like fall out here. I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you.

Here are this week’s picks.

Ghosts of Sugar Land

Where to watch: Netflix

The most exciting new release is definitely not Aaron Sorkin’s Fincher-less return to Facebook movies (although feel free to rewatch The Social Network, it’s still great). Instead, that would be Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, an action thriller starring Mahershala Ali as a devoutly religious sword-wielding assassin protecting his children from dangerous people. Sounds rad, right? Even better, it’s from filmmaker Bassam Tariq, who was one of many directors tapped for the now-shelved Blade movie starring Ali and directed this excellent 21-minute documentary short.

Ghosts of Sugar Land follows a group of friends in the Houston suburbs, and what happens when one of them becomes radicalized by ISIS. A compelling portrait of an America we don’t often get to see depicted on screen, Tariq offers no easy answers, instead leaning on the shock and despair of the friends left behind, and on the dangers of isolation and loneliness in a country that often seems on the brink of collapse.

Resurrection

Where to watch: Kanopy

My favorite new movie of the year, a gorgeous sci-fi ode to dreams and the way we process them, is now more widely available to watch at home after being added to Kanopy. I came away from Resurrection in complete awe of the ambition and execution, and it’s a true reminder of the limitless possibilities of what cinema and storytelling can be.

Slow Horses season 6

Where to watch: Apple TV Plus

Even with a new showrunner, the best show on TV hasn’t missed a beat in its latest season. If you don’t watch Slow Horses, let this be your annual reminder that the show is back and you should rectify that. If you do watch Slow Horses, well, why not do what we do and rewatch the whole show before every new season? The spy show hasn’t let us down yet.
