Weekend Watchlist, 9/11: Energy
What to watch this weekend
Happy Friday, PV Guide readers! I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you.
It’s been a busy week for me, so this write-up will be just a bit briefer, but the picks continue. Two quick updates: my Back in Action: 1991 piece for August is now live, and I’ve updated the Best of 2026 section of my Premium Picks page.
Here are this week’s picks.

Criterion’s Girl Bands! Collection

Where to watch: Criterion Channel
A new collection on the Criterion Channel that caught my eye this month is Girl Bands! which features, you guessed it, movies about girl bands. I’ve been wanting to watch Linda Linda Linda after seeing some trusted pals rave about, and am excited to get the chance. The rest of the collection has a lot of interesting and varied movies, too.
Taskmaster Series 22
Where to watch: YouTube
Always a time to celebrate: There’s a fresh new batch of Taskmaster, with two episodes up by the time you read this. AND you can catch a sneak preview of episode 2’s prize task here.
US Open

Where to watch: ESPN
This year’s US Open pulled me back into tennis-watching, and it’s been great so far. I’m writing this before Thursday night’s semifinals on the women’s side, and that’s what I’m most excited about (especially Coco Gauff against Elena Rybakina, who has looked dominant so far in the tournament). I hope you watched them with me, and whatever combination made it to the final should make for a very exciting match.
On the men’s side, the duel of Americans Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton Friday night should, fingers crossed, make for great entertainment, as both hope to become the first American man to win the US Open since Andy Roddick in 2003. I’ll be rooting for Tiafoe, who grew up in the DC area and has a great story and an exciting playing style. I literally overheard people talking about Tiafoe at my local coffee shop. Tennis is back in the air, folks.
