Happy Friday, PV Guide readers! I hope you have a great weekend ahead of you.

If you missed it, check out my interview with indie genre filmmaker Jason Trost. We had a wide-ranging conversation about the state of the industry, the influence of video games, and what success looks like as an artist working outside established systems.

There's also now a way to gift a subscription to PV Guide! If there's someone in your life who you think would enjoy the newsletter, consider gifting them a monthly or annual paid subscription.

Here are this week’s picks.

One of Them Days

Where to watch: Netflix

Boots Riley’s latest movie I Love Boosters is out this week, about a group of shoplifters who seek revenge on a fashion designer who stole their designs. I Love Boosters stars Keke Palmer, which is a good excuse to recommend her criminally underrated 2025 comedy One of Them Days. Palmer is one of the most charismatic movie stars working today, and One of Them Days is a throwback buddy comedy that makes the most of that charisma, pairing her with SZA as two besties who have one day to find rent money after a shitty boyfriend spent it all. It’s also a great “hot summer day” movie, so with the weather heating up, it’s extra fitting.

Milk & Serial

Where to watch: YouTube

Curry Barker is the latest in a recent run of YouTubers-turned-horror-filmmakers, and his newest movie Obsession has been a smash hit at the box office. His first movie, Milk & Serial, is a found footage horror made on a budget of $800 and released for free on YouTube. I haven’t watched it myself yet (planning to this weekend!) but I’ve heard very good things and that it’s quite scary.

Debunking Oz Pearlman

Where to watch: YouTube

Journalist Pablo Torre’s show Pablo Torre Finds Out has been a consistent source of new knowledge and joy for me, and I really enjoyed his latest episode, where he digs into famous mentalist Oz Pearlman with guest Stevie Baskin, a magician and lawyer. It’s a fascinating dive into the ethics of magic and how Pearlman crosses them with methods I would describe as cheating.
